When I first arrived in Berlin, I worked as a photographer and picture editor for the mainstream media. I quickly saw how narratives were shaped to serve the few, silencing the many. Refusing to play a part, I left to work freelance for an independent socialist newspaper.
There, I supported more human storytelling: researching and editing images, archiving, briefing photographers and artists, developing supplements on environmental and social struggles, and sometimes creating my own graphic collage works to challenge dominant narratives.
(see examples below)
Still, I longed for deeper connection with the voices of communities themselves. This has led me to my path as a socially engaged artist — using art for dialogue, resistance, and, above all, bringing people together and amplifying community voice.
